You may have heard the term ‘generational wealth’ and thought, ‘Wow, that sounds important'. But at the same time, you might have pushed it to the back of your mind because you have more pressing issues. For many Black Americans in the position to build wealth for the first time, guidance and resources usually don't come from previous generations. Therefore, we must rely on each other by hiring people from own communities and investing in each other's businesses.
Young people have often been at the forefront of social progress in America. During the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s, for instance, youth worked to desegregate schools, register black voters & protest against systemic oppression. Today is no different. Young people across the country are improving media representation for people of color, promoting literacy education, speaking out against bullying, and much more.
Many business owners will agree that building a legacy is a vital part of their strategy. It forms company ethos, helps build longterm profitability and impacts everything from community and customer behavior to industry and even culture. During Black History Month, I will be highlighting Black Entrepreneurs and Black Small Business Owners who are creating incredible things and intentionally creating a positive legacy for future generations.
